For the vast majority of its history, Rooster Teeth has specializing in producing comedic internet based content. From Red vs. Blue to Lazer Team, they are really known for making videos that will be designed turn you into laugh, with just a modest amount of story for yourself. However, quite possibly the most astute fans of Rooster Teeth may have noticed that a selection of their flagship web series have taken a darker tone lately. With Day 5, Rooster Teeth’s latest live action web series, it feels like this subtle shift in mood has culminated inside their most intriguing project thus far.
From a story?standpoint, Day 5?is entirely distinct from the common almost wacky stories that Rooster Teeth’s audience may be familiar with. Similar to most post-apocalyptic stories, Day 5 gets underway with a world event that creates a lot of the mankind to die. Unlike most post-apocalyptic stories, the main cause of this extinction level event isn’t global nuclear warfare or aliens or zombies, rather the innate need for the human body to sleep. Around the globe, persons are dying in their sleep, leaving the number of survivors inside a precarious situation where that doctor needs to prevent sleep provided possible through whatever means necessary.
As such, there are no laughs in Day 5. It is not an article wherein a selection of by far the most inept soldiers inside the galaxy stumble around secret bases and company conspiracies, it is a story where death may be very real, and it’s coming rather than the characters prepare yourself. The earliest episode of Day 5 makes this clear as drug addict Jake, unnaturally smart teenager Sam, and a few other survivors come to terms with the truth that being lacking sleep and relying upon all sorts of drugs and stimulants to remain seated awake for even daily causes the body and mind to kick.
Of course, therefore Day 5’s most notable feature isn’t likely to be its CGI or action sequences, rather what sort of characters talk with the other along with their own dependence on sleep. Throughout the first 10 minutes of episode one, you have a a feeling of what amount stress the characters are under, the way that they overcome?into it, and the way it tests the maxim to remain together to thrive when so many people are dealing with the fact that they could quite literally die in the blink of any eye. Ultimately,?although most of the characters fit into the same old families of being smart, serious, or witty, they are largely well played due in no small part towards bursts of swinging emotions that typically arise from sleep deprivation.
Unfortunately, the type of Day 5 like a web series does mean that some characters (especially Sam) haven’t any choice but to stretch the imagination a little during a few scenes (especially given their background and the matter which they result in). In the end, many people are probably cognizant of the method that you can’t think as clearly or exactly how much slower one reacts every time they don’t get enough sleep, but some of Day 5’s characters apparently ignore this and can function somewhat normally to the level which it seems similar to they can be merely inconvenienced through the apocalypse.
Although Day 5 has none of the humor that could be commonly associated with Rooster Teeth, it’s really a fascinating change of pace from the usual tales of?apocalyptic doom and gloom. There may stop being any zombies or international warfare, but that’s completely fine because Day 5 is much more associated with a story that revolves around the characters and their battle against efforts and nature itself. At the minimum, it presents a useful question: when you have to fight your personal body to live, exactly what you happy to do?
